Diesel Prices/George is still here

Ok, I am no idiot. I am confident the reason for the current diesel price is simple unabridged capitolism....but here goes, anyway: Why does diesel cost more at the pump than it's more refined, counterpart, Gasoline?

Also, why does our president remain in office? Somebody help me, here.
